WPForms vs Ninja Forms: Free Features, Pricing & Add-Ons (2026)

WPForms and Ninja Forms compared on free features, entries, calculations, signatures, payments, add-ons, pricing, integrations, and migration.

Updated September 24, 2026

WPForms and Ninja Forms are both established WordPress form builders with free versions, drag-and-drop editors, templates, submission workflows, payments, and large extension ecosystems. The important difference is how much each gives you before you pay and how the paid products are packaged.

WPForms follows a tiered plan model: features unlock as you move from Lite to Basic, Plus, Pro, and Elite. Ninja Forms puts more data-management and form-building capability into its free Core plugin, then sells advanced functionality through membership bundles and individual add-ons.

TL;DR

WPForms makes sense when you want a highly packaged form ecosystem with built-in templates, payment options in Lite, and clearly tiered upgrades. Ninja Forms is worth a closer look when free local submission storage, calculations, signatures, unlimited-site use, or buying only selected add-ons matters to you. The paid pricing is not directly comparable until you know which premium features your forms actually need.

The free versions are more different than they first appear

Both plugins let you build forms for free, but they draw the free/paid line in different places.

WPForms Lite includes the visual builder, templates, notifications, spam protection, AI-assisted form generation, and payment collection through supported gateways. However, full WordPress entry management, conditional logic, multi-page forms, file uploads, calculations, signatures, and most advanced workflows require a paid plan.

Ninja Forms Core currently includes unlimited forms and submissions, local submission management, calculations, typed and drawn signature fields, star ratings, repeatable fieldsets, email notifications, spam protection, templates, redirects, import/export tools, and its AI Form Builder. Conditional logic, multi-step forms, file uploads, payment gateways, CRM connections, user management, and many automation features are paid extensions.

That makes the free-version decision surprisingly specific. If I needed to collect and manage ordinary submissions in WordPress without paying, Ninja Forms would deserve attention. If the first requirement were taking a simple payment through the free plugin, WPForms has a clearer built-in route.

Submission storage is a major practical difference

Ninja Forms does not paywall its submission dashboard. The free Core plugin lets administrators view, search, filter, edit, and export stored entries inside WordPress.

WPForms Lite primarily delivers submitted data through notifications. Complete local entry management in the WordPress dashboard is part of the paid product. WPForms also offers Lite Connect for backing up Lite entries remotely so they can be restored after upgrading, but that is not the same workflow as having the normal paid entries dashboard available in Lite.

Calculations and signatures are unusually strong in Ninja Forms Core

Ninja Forms includes calculations in Core. You can assign numeric values to fields, combine calculations, score quizzes, build quote forms, and reuse calculated values in later actions. Its Signature field is also now part of Core and supports typed or drawn signatures.

One limitation matters: Ninja Forms explicitly says its Signature field does not currently meet full legal e-signature compliance standards such as ESIGN, UETA, or eIDAS. It can be useful for acknowledgements and approvals, but I would not treat it as a substitute for a compliance-focused e-signature platform when the legal standard matters.

WPForms offers calculations and signatures through paid functionality. That may be fine if you are already buying Pro-level features, but it changes the value comparison for sites that only need a calculator or simple signature field.

Conditional logic, file uploads, and multi-step forms

Neither free plugin gives you the full advanced workflow stack in this area. WPForms puts conditional logic, file uploads, and multi-page forms into paid plans. Ninja Forms sells Conditional Logic, File Uploads, and Multi Step Forms as add-ons and bundles all three into its Plus membership.

Ninja Forms’ modular model is useful when you need one specific extension. You can buy individual add-ons instead of committing to the whole membership. The trade-off is that pricing becomes less obvious when a site needs several extensions, because you then need to compare the individual add-on total against Plus, Pro, or Elite.

Payments: WPForms starts free, Ninja Forms starts paid

WPForms Lite supports payment collection through supported gateways, with an additional WPForms transaction fee on the free plan. Paid plans remove WPForms’ extra platform fee at the relevant tiers and unlock broader payment functionality.

Ninja Forms treats payment processors as paid extensions. Plus includes PayPal. Pro adds Stripe, Authorize.net, and Elavon, while Elite includes the full add-on collection. Some payment add-ons support recurring billing and subscriptions.

For a small donation or payment form, the decision can therefore come down to fee model versus license cost. A free payment route may cost more per transaction, while a paid gateway add-on introduces an annual software cost before processor fees.

Pricing is tiered on WPForms and modular on Ninja Forms

Pricing checked in September 2026. WPForms Basic is currently advertised at $49.50 for the first year for one site, with the regular annual price listed at $99. Plus is $99.50 introductory for three sites, Pro is $199.50 for five sites, and Elite is $299.50 for unlimited sites. The advertised prices are introductory discounts.

Ninja Forms Plus is currently $59.40 for the first year and renews at the regular $99/year price for three sites. Pro is $119.40 first year / $199 renewal for 20 sites, and Elite is $299.40 first year / $499 renewal for unlimited sites. Ninja Forms also sells individual add-ons separately.

Ninja Forms maintains an official Lifetime Membership page that describes Elite-level benefits without license expiration, although the current main pricing table does not show public lifetime pricing. I would verify current purchase availability and price directly with Ninja Forms before treating lifetime licensing as part of the budget.

Integrations follow different buying models

WPForms groups integrations into license tiers. Basic focuses on core form features; Plus expands email marketing; Pro adds a much broader business, payment, automation, and conversion toolkit; Elite adds higher-end CRM and webhook capabilities.

Ninja Forms works more like a modular extension library. Plus bundles common marketing tools and PayPal. Pro adds CRM, automation, Stripe, Authorize.net, Elavon, user management, and other tools. Elite includes the entire add-on catalogue. Individual integrations such as Webhooks, Front-End Posting, Salesforce, HubSpot, and payment processors can also be purchased separately.

I would compare the exact integrations you need instead of counting logos. A site that needs only Mailchimp and conditional logic has a very different cost profile from one that needs Stripe, Salesforce, webhooks, post creation, and file uploads.

Ninja Forms has become more interesting for AI-assisted workflows

Ninja Forms 3.15 added an AI Form Builder that can create and refine forms from natural-language prompts when the required WordPress AI framework and provider connection are available. Ninja Forms also exposes WordPress Abilities API actions for external AI assistants to create forms, update settings, configure actions, and manage submissions.

WPForms also offers AI-assisted form creation and related AI tools. The difference is less about whether either product has AI and more about how deeply you want AI tied into the wider WordPress administration workflow.

Where the trade-offs show up in real projects

WPForms strengths: a very large template and integration ecosystem, straightforward plan tiers, free payment capability, and a polished path from simple forms into payments, surveys, marketing, and conversion workflows.

WPForms limitations in this comparison: Lite does not provide the normal local entry-management workflow, and several capabilities Ninja Forms includes in Core require a paid WPForms license.

Ninja Forms strengths: generous Core functionality, free submission management, calculations and signatures, unlimited-site Core use, and the flexibility to buy individual extensions instead of a full bundle.

Ninja Forms limitations in this comparison: payment processors and several common advanced workflows are paid add-ons, and the modular licensing model can take more work to price when a project needs many extensions.

How I would narrow the decision

I would look closely at WPForms when the project needs a packaged business-form ecosystem, free payment collection, a large template library, and a predictable upgrade path through broader marketing and CRM tiers.

I would look closely at Ninja Forms when free entry storage, calculations, signatures, unlimited-site Core use, or selecting individual add-ons is more important than having everything bundled into one plan.

Before purchasing either one, list the exact requirements: payment gateway, conditional logic, uploads, multi-step forms, CRM, webhooks, post creation, user registration, signatures, calculations, and site count. Then compare the plan or add-on combination that actually satisfies that list.

Switching between WPForms and Ninja Forms

If you already have live forms, migration deserves its own check. WPForms provides an importer for Ninja Forms, but a form import does not guarantee every add-on-specific workflow, payment configuration, integration, notification, or custom action will map one-to-one. Re-test every migrated form before replacing the original.

You can also compare broader replacement options in the WPForms alternatives guide and Ninja Forms alternatives guide.
